OVERVIEW

This is a ride unlike any other in Brisbane.

In teams of 4 you will cycle between 60km-130km, depending on your drive on the day.

As a team, your goal is to reach as many Pillars (checkpoints) showcasing Brisbane & surrounds in just 5 hours.

Navigation, as well as the order and number of Pillars you choose to visit, is up to you.

DETAILS

Date Sunday 29 April 2012
Start time 7am (registration tent open from 6am)
Finish time 12noon
Start / finish line Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (Click here to see map)
Course 10km-130km in Brisbane & surrounding areas

Here’s the crux of what you need to know:

  • Navigation is up to you – there is no designated course or directional signage between Pillars.
  • Each team of 4 cyclists has from 7am – 12noon to reach the Pillars & return to the start/finish site.
  • Teams should aim to reach as many Pillars worth the maximum number of points in the allocated time.
  • The order & number of Pillars teams choose to visit is discretionary.
  • Pillars will be worth a varying number of points depending on their degree of difficulty to reach.
  • Each Pillar location will be clearly marked & accessible via sealed roads.
  • The location of the 7 Pillars will be revealed 1 month prior to the event, along with their individual points value.
  • Penalty points will be deducted from teams for any infringements listed in the rules below. The number of penalty points incurred for each infringement will be revealed along with the location of the Pillars 1 month prior to the event.

THE RULES

Penalty points will be deducted from teams who fail to adhere to the following event rules. The number of points deducted for each incursion will be confirmed with the release of the 7 Pillars, 1 month prior to the event.

  • All teams must return to the start/finish site strictly by 12noon.
  • All team members – barring accidents or injury – must be present at the start/finish site at 12noon to avoid a penalty.
  • Teams will not be able to progress past any of the Pillars until all 4 members are present. If your team is separated, you must wait at the next Pillar to continue.
  • Teams can visit the Pillars in any order between 7am-12pm.
  • If one or more team members is required to abandon the ride, the remaining participants can still carry on, but no longer qualify for prizes.
  • Team bike numbers must be fixed to the front of your bike & visible at all times.
  • All road rules apply.
  • Please adhere to standard cycling etiquette.

EVENT DAY

The registration tent will be open from 6am at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. All members of your team should aim to be at the start line at this time to collect your event kits and prepare for the ride.

All teams will start together at 7am, but will head off in different directions depending on their ride strategy.

Parking is available at the Hospital’s parking station or in surrounding streets. Cyclists are encouraged to ride to the start line, as storage and shower facilities will be available at the Cycle Centre at no charge to goa 7 Pillars Ride participants. Don’t forget to bring a towel if you plan to shower afterwards!

PRIZES

The team crowned the winner at the end of the ride will have accumulated the most points in the allocated timeframe. This includes any penalties for infringements.

Prizes will be awarded to each team member. Most details about what’s up for grabs will be released soon.
