What is the Westpac Tour de Tri 24?
The Westpac Tour de Tri is an annual triathlon based charity event for which all proceeds are donated to the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). The Tour De Tri was first created in 2008 when Mark Turner completed 3 Ironman Triathlon over 3 consecutive days. In 2009 the event was reformatted to include a wider audience and the Westpac Tour de Tri 24hr was born. Due to the response received in 2009 the event will continue in its format in 2010 and is open to all individuals and teams. To view Mark’s story – see the link at the bottom of the page.
Minimum age of entry
You must be over 18 years old to enter as an individual and 16 years to be part of a team.
Team format
It is up to you how you schedule your team mates, however only one member can be on the course at any given time. 1 lap consists of a swim, cycle and run – in that order. You may like to all complete one lap each one after the other, or you might have one dedicated person doing all swim legs, one doing all cycle and the other doing all run legs. If you would prefer to take advantage of some sleep then best to schedule each team member a number of laps before they hand over to the next member in the team.
You can also stop, eat and rest (even sleep) for periods of time if you choose.
Swim (6 zig-zag laps)
The 300m swim will take place in a 50 metre heated pool at the Kawana Aquatic Centre. As the pool is heated the swim will be non-wetsuit.
Cycle (4 laps)
The 12km ride is an out and back course along using the whole length of Sportsmans Parade. It is all on fully lit roads closed to general traffic. The cycle course is completely flat.
Run (1 lap)
The 2km run is an out and back course along the rowing lake. The run course is flat with only the slightest rise at the turnaround point.
What to bring
You will need to bring all your own gear such as cap, goggles, bike and shoes, helmet, runners, hat, sunnies and water bottles. A light on the front and back of bikes is required, and also a flashing light for the run leg.
The weather could be quite cold, so in addition, bring along arm warmers, a wind vest, a beanie, gloves etc. There will be spaces to set up camp and club tents’ so you can bring along a sleeping bag, pillows, a hot water bottle, a rug, some warm dry clothes, a change of clothes and any other personal needs for 24 hours. Competitors will have access to toilets and showers at the Aquatic Centre.
Food and beverage
We will provide all participants with water, fruit, and sports drink at the aid station in transition. Food and drinks can also be purchased from the onsite BBQ and coffee van. All the proceeds from the food and drinks go directly back to the charity so try to support this if you can.
Volunteering We are looking for volunteers! Email info@chem.net.au to register your interest.
Random Draw Prize
One lucky competitor will be walking away with an Avanti Monza worth $1300 thanks to Matt Hopper’s Avanti Plus shop, Fortitude Valley.
